The high chancel

The High altar is the Cathedral's foremost altar. Services on great Holy days and church festivals are lead from here. All Swedish bishops are ordained at this altar, as well as priests and deacons of the Archdiocese.

The large crucifix of silver and cut crystal was made in Orrefors and installed in the Cathedral in 1976.
Over the altar hangs a silver chandelier made in 1647.

Below the altar steps are the gravestones of two of the Swedish Church's most celebrated archbishops:
Laurentius Petri the elder, who died in 1573, was Sweden's first evangelical-Lutheran archbishop.
Nathan Söderblom, who died in 1931, is one of the 20th century's most famous Swedes. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
